FOUNDER STORIES
Seeds to Water
Everyone wants to scale. But scaling doesn’t start with speed. It starts with a seed. (say that 5 times of fast)
Before the spike, the sale, or the story, growth begins with selecting what seeds you plant.
You must be good at one of two things: sowing in the spring or begging in the fall.
Plant the Seeds
The beginning matters more than people think. It’s where your values live. It’s where your habits form.
It’s where the tone gets set, whether you realize it or not.
You build something great by laying down the right foundation and committing to it. That’s true for
Brands
Families
Businesses
Friendships
Everything
That essence is the root that everything else grows from.
Pick the right seed & Water it
You don’t see results from something you only do when it’s convenient.
The quiet consistency is whats matters. The compound effect of getting 1% better is quiet. It compounds. It gets better over time, not overnight.
You show up, even when it’s early. You keep going, even when the room is empty. You don’t need permission. You don’t need fireworks. You need to pick the right seed and water it persistently.
I’ve seen too many people give up before the roots even settle. They bail when it doesn’t look big enough yet.
Trust the process. Water your seed. And when the lights come on, you’ll be ready.
It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.
Pick the Right Seeds
Jim Rohn puts it simply: If you plant pumpkin seed, you're going to get a pumpkin. He also talks about how people will plant a pumpkin seed and then expect an apple tree.
That's just not the way the world works. You are planting seeds every day, and it’s up to you to do it with intention: to pick the right seed.
Small business are often saying “I gotta be on Instagram and I gotta be on LinkedIn and I gotta…” but at the same time they don't have their books in order.
What are you putting your attention into and what are you prioritizing? I’ve sadly seen businesses closing with a great online following but the numbers don’t add up. Yes, we are big believers in marketing, but the energy into marketing should not outweigh the fiscal plan and health of the overall business.
You can’t plant the wrong thing and hope it turns out right.
Be honest about what you’re building. What kind of life you want. What kind of business you want to run. And then lay that foundation.
Environment for Your Seeds to Grow
You can do everything right and still feel stuck if you're in the wrong environment.
The soil matters. The people you surround yourself with. The energy in the room. The pressure you put on yourself. If the environment’s off, the roots won’t hold. That applies to your team, your home, your city, your relationship, your mindset.
Strong roots don’t grow in dry soil.
Check your surroundings. Protect your energy. Plant your seed where it has a shot.
So ask yourself today:
What seed are you watering?
Is it the right one?
Is it based on your values, your purpose, or just urgency and noise?
Where are you planting your seeds?

The Moment I knew my Core Value
If goals set your sail, your values are the sturdy ship under your feet.
I have a memory from my elementary school yard. I must have been nine or 10. As I looked out at the field I saw some kids playing soccer, a group of girls under a tree playing pretend, a little crew walking and whispering to each other, I remember thinking: Where do I fit in?
Which swiftly turned to: How do I fit in?
I remember closing my eyes, settling my mind, and the thought came to me:
What do I want to be known for?
When people say my name, what is the one quality I want to come to their lips when they describe me?
Some fleeting ideas floated through my mind: fun, pretty, clever…
But they weren't quite right. And then it came to me: Kind.
Above all, I desired for my kindness to be evident in my actions and interactions, and through that gateway of integrity, there would always be a place for me.

As I've grown older, I understand that in that moment, I identified not a want, but a core value.
In times of decision making it has never steered me wrong. But my understanding of “Kind” has evolved with age.
In fact, I'm really glad I didn't settle on the word nice. Because nice is fine, but kind is deeper.
As an adult, I've learned that kindness can mean candor.
That truly caring about others can sometimes mean saying or explaining things that don't feel "nice" in the moment, but are deeply meaningful.
And the same goes for myself - I work to be kind to myself, which is sometimes easier said than done, and doesn't always feel "nice".
In my early 20's I learned my strongest tool to discern how to be kind when a yoga instructor prompted me to "observe without judgement." This philosophy is fundamental to being honest but kind. And somehow also invokes empathy.
I feel lucky that my brain had that thought on the school yard, and that I built my sturdy ship with intention since then.
And I love hearing those turning point stories from others!
Hit reply if you had a moment in your life that cemented your core value.
